This document is a sort of contract; both for you to the operator of this service, as well as the operator of this service to you. It is an agreement, the promises I'll try to keep, and the promises I hope you, too, will try to keep. Neither of us will be perfect, but please do try the best you can, and I'll try the best I can.
What to Expect from Furries Chat
This is a Matrix homeserver maintained by me, Kit Lotor, a furry therian trans girl. I'm one critter doing this in my free time, and I provide it on a best effort basis. This is to say, I'm going to try my best, but I will make mistakes, there will be downtime, and it'll suck when it happens - but when it does, you bet I'm going to be working as best as I can to fix it, as fast as I can.This service is also paid for out of pocket, and I don't have Discord amounts of money, either. The cost is sustainable for me, but the future is unpredictable. If I, for any reason, am unable to continue running this server, I will inform everyone as soon as I am able to, and will give as much time as I feasibly can to allow folks to migrate. I will try to give no less than thirty days' notice, but I'll give more if I can.
This homeserver and its operator are both located within the United States, and are subject to its laws. Please take this into account when using these services. Daily backups are encrypted and stored on a server in the EU.
This homeserver is invite only by myself, the admin. Users on this homeserver are those who either I or someone I trust know, pass a vibe check, and are adults.
What Furries Chat Expects from You
There are two different sets of terms; one for using the chat service in general, and one for the Furries Chat space and channels. The former is less restrictive than the latter, because I'm not your mom. (If you want me to be your mom and I agree to it, I could make you a more restrictive set of rules, but that's out of scope of this document. :P)Using the Furries Chat Services
The Terms of Service can be boiled down to three overarching rules:- Don't be a dick.
- Don't do anything that could get this server subpoena'd.
- Don't do anything that'd make me add additional rules.
What do I mean by this? Here's a few examples:
- Don't spam people with garbage they don't want - that's being a dick.
- Don't plan a terrorist attack here - this could get the server subpoena'd.
- Don't use this server to hack/exploit other servers - this is both being a dick and possibly getting the server subpoena'd.
- If you use this server to distribute CSAM, I will report you to the authorities and will fantasize punting you into the sun.
I, Kit Lotor, also reserve the right to suspend, ban, or delete your account at any time, even if not covered in those rules. If I do this, it is for an exceptional case of being a terrible person I couldn't forsee, and necessitates adding a new rule - hence rule 3.
Keep in mind these rules will be judged by spirit, not by letter. Trying to lawyer your way around them will be considered violating rule 1. They may also apply to outside behavior for exceptional circumstances; for example, if you become a raging transphobe overnight and show your whole ass on some other service, this is still a serious violation of rule 1, and you can bet I probably wouldn't want you here.
Keep in mind, all in all, that these rules exist not because I want to "lay down the law" - I'd rather avoid doing any such thing if I can help it. This is in order to lay out expectations for what is welcome and what isn't, and I hope to only need to use these moderation tools as little as possible, and only as much as necessary to protect community from bad actors. I seek to build more than I destroy.
Using the Furries Chat Space
First off, all rules from Using the Furries Chat Services apply - don't be a dick, don't do anything that could get this server subpoena'd, and don't do anything that'd make me add additional rules.Please only post lewd and kink content in the "OwO" channel, as this is the only way we have to ensure viewing is consensusal and only viewable by adults. Additionally, for all federated channels (every channel in the space except for "OwO" and "Local General"), assume a minor may be able to see what you've posted and behave accordingly.
Keep in mind that this space is left-leaning, and include folks from vulnerable populations. To that end, please consider other spaces if your political beliefs skew to the right, as your beliefs may be inherently incompatible.
You may self-advertise personal endeavors, but please don't make it all you do. You're not welcome if you're just here to advertise.
The Furries Chat space is primarily intended for critters on the Furries Chat homeserver and their friends to hang out and chill with peers. If you're not a member of Furries Chat and were not invited by another member, you may be kicked, especially if you just lurk, fail vibe checks, and/or nobody is willing to vet for you.
As with the homeserver rules, I (Kit Lotor) reserve the right to kick or ban anyone from any channel in the Furries Chat space, or the space as a whole, for any reason.
